Chapter 12
Tyler
"You did great!" I said to Piper as she climbed back up onto the boat.
"Yes, Ms. Montgomery. Youâre a natural on the water," Tony, our boat driver and instructor said.
"Thanks. I just got lucky and youâre so good with your instructions. You're right, I do need to just wait before trying to stand up."
"It takes some strength but the boat will help you up if you let it," Tony said with a nod.
"That it did. Thanks for the advice," she said and took the towel I handed to her.
"We got time for one more round, if you want to go, Mr. Samson?" Tony asked me.
I looked out on the water. It was a pretty day, there were hardly any clouds in the sky and the water had been pretty flat for us which had been a blessing. It wasn't easy to go wakeboarding in the ocean but we had made the best of it, especially with Tony being an excellent instructor. He had been great about teaching Piper what she needed to know, encouraging her when she had issues, and helped her get up on the board in no time. We had spent most of the day on the water, I originally thought we would have to go back before lunch but Tony had told us no one else wanted to go out so we had him and the boat all to ourselves. It had been great as it gave Piper and me plenty of time on the water to wakeboard, however, it did not give us much alone time. And as much fun as it would have been to get up on the board one more time, I was ready to be alone with Piper.
"Maybe some other time. I'm ready for a nice cool drink and some food."
"Excellent idea, sir," Tony said and turned on the engine and started heading us back to the resort.
I walked over to the bow of the boat and to Piper. She had finished drying off and was sitting with her feet out in front of her on one side of the U shaped cushions. I sat behind her and said, "Can I sit next to you?"
"Sure," she said and started to sit up and move her feet off the couch.
"Don't move on my account," I said. I had to yell a little bit to be heard over the sound of the engine and the wind, I leaned closer to her as well, which was an added bonus.
She nodded at me and settled back down on the cushions, I put my arm over the back of it and hoped she would see it as the invitation to nestle in next to me. She hesitated for a moment but when the boat hit a wave she jumped a little in her seat and then came back down next to me. Her breast pressed up against my side and I took it as a small victory when she didn't move away from me.
There had been small victories all day.
